Islamic Subjects

Islamic Monotheism

The foundational belief in the absolute oneness of God (Tawhid). Students learn that Allah is unique, without partners or equals.

Sources of Exegesis

Examines the primary tools used to interpret the Qur'an — itself, the Hadith, scholarly consensus, and Arabic linguistics.

Sources of Jurisprudence

Studies primary evidence for Islamic law — the Qur'an, Sunnah, scholarly consensus, and analogy — and how rulings are derived.

Sources of Prophetic Traditions

Covers chain-of-narration methodology, narrator reliability, and text analysis to distinguish authentic Hadith from weak ones.

Qur'an Recitation (Tajweed)

Correct pronunciation and melodious recitation — covering articulation points, nasal sounds, and proper stopping rules.

Arabic Composition & Comprehension

Develops Arabic writing and reading skills, enabling students to construct texts and understand classical literature.

Qur'an Exegesis (Tafsir)

Advanced Quranic interpretation using classical and contemporary commentary traditions in full academic depth.

Jurisprudence of Rituals

Detailed rulings covering prayer, fasting, zakat, and hajj derived from the primary sources of Islamic law.

Religions & Sects

Examines different Islamic sects and other faith traditions to foster interfaith awareness and comparative theological analysis.

Rhetoric

The study of eloquent and effective communication in Arabic, examining figurative language and composition techniques.

Grammar & Morphology

Sentence structure and word patterns — the foundational Arabic linguistic sciences for reading classical texts accurately.

Advanced Hadith Sciences

University-level analysis of chains of narration, narrator biographies, and the classification of prophetic traditions.

What is the Idaad and Thanawi system?

Uganda's structured Islamic secondary education framework. Idaad (O-Level) covers the first four years, building foundational Islamic knowledge. Thanawi (A-Level) is a two-year advanced programme for deeper specialisation in Islamic sciences.

How long does each level take to complete?

Idaad (O-Level) spans four years, while Thanawi (A-Level) requires two years of study. Students typically begin after completing primary Islamic education and progress systematically through the curriculum.

What subjects are taught at Idaad level?

Idaad students study Islamic Monotheism, Sources of Exegesis, Sources of Jurisprudence, Sources of Prophetic Traditions, Qur'anic Orals (Tajweed), Arabic Composition and Comprehension, and Islamic History, among others.

What makes Thanawi level different?

Thanawi offers advanced specialisation with subjects like Qur'an Exegesis, Jurisprudence of Rituals, Religions and Sects, Rhetoric, and advanced Grammar and Morphology — preparing students for university-level Islamic scholarship.

Are graduates qualified for university admission?

Yes. Successful Thanawi graduates meet admission requirements for Islamic universities, including the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), where they can pursue bachelor's and postgraduate degrees in specialised Islamic disciplines.

How does the KAMSSA portal handle grading?

The portal uses a configurable grading engine aligned with national standards. Administrators set the grading scale per academic year, and the system automatically converts raw marks into letter grades, aggregate scores, and division classifications.

Ready to Access the KAMSSA Portal?
